Seaboard Marine Recognized for Economic Development
[ February 24, 2017 // Gary G Burrows ]In an address to the media, various state and local elected officials gathered at PortMiami on Feb. 9 to discuss economic development and job creation in Florida. In attendance, along with Governor Rick Scott and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, was PortMiami Director Juan Kuryla who formally thanked Seaboard Marine for our part in contributing to the economic and employment growth in South Florida. Kuryla specifically noted Seaboard Marine’s 30-year partnership with PortMiami producing significant investments resulting in improving business opportunities throughout the community.
Bruce Brecheisen, Executive Vice President, added, “With the M/V Seaboard Atlantic as the background for the Governor’s remarks, it was gratifying to hear of his plans for continued investment in Florida’s seaports and PortMiami. Governor Scott has visited Seaboard Marine’s terminal three times during his tenure as Governor and our employees are always proud to welcome him and appreciate his support of our company and our industry. Over 600 of our more than 1,000 domestic employees are based in South Florida.”
Seaboard Marine Vice President Jose Perez-Jones said, “Through the years, with the help of the state of Florida, we have worked collaboratively with PortMiami on numerous projects to improve infrastructure and security while increasing efficiency. We’re always appreciative when receiving recognition for efforts that benefit both our employees and our valued customers.”
With its state, federal and private-sector partners, such as Seaboard Marine, PortMiami has or will invest over $2 billion in major infrastructure improvements to support future growth.
