JAXPORT has awarded University of North Florida (UNF) senior Beatrize Gomez with a $2,500 scholarship for transportation and logistics studies at UNF’s Coggin College of Business.

Born and raised in Belize, Beatrize moved to Jacksonville in 2014 to begin her studies at UNF. She has distinguished herself as an outstanding scholar, representing UNF at the 2016 Intermodal Association of North America Expo and Student Challenge.

She will graduate in April 2017 and will be employed as a Shipment Allocation Coordinator at Total Military Management, a Jacksonville-based non-asset logistics company that connects transportation service providers to the military marketplace.

“A skilled workforce is one of our strengths in attracting top companies to do business through Jacksonville,” said JAXPORT interim CEO Eric Green during a personal visit with the scholarship winner. “By investing in future, dynamic transportation and logistics leaders such as Beatrize, we are ensuring the region’s continued economic vitality and competitiveness.”

Since 2008, JAXPORT has awarded $14,500 in scholarships as part of the port’s ongoing commitment to supporting local students and industry educational programs. To be eligible for the annual JAXPORT Scholarship, students must declare transportation and logistics as a major, be enrolled as a full-time junior or senior at UNF, and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

As an active corporate citizen, JAXPORT sponsors and participates in numerous Northeast Florida community outreach programs focused on education.
