[ January 23, 2019 // Gary G Burrows ]The Intermodal Association of North America released, in print and digital format, a first-of-its-kind resource, “The IANA Guide to Chassis Inspection and Repair: Intermodal Recommended Practices.” The Guide details all the elements for the inspection, repair and replacement of components on the North American fleet of intermodal chassis. This project was designed to support the critically important tasks of recruiting, training and retaining quality mechanics.
Steve Keppler, senior vice president at IANA, shared, “We commend the extraordinary amount of time, dedication and commitment that industry experts put into the development of this valuable resource.” He added, “The impact of these recommended practices will have far-reaching effects on improving the safety and utilization of chassis long into the future.”
The anticipated benefits from the guide are industry-wide. Improved repair quality should augment safety, reduce roadside breakdowns and improve customer service. The 300-page manual also serves as a basis for chassis mechanics training curriculum, while supporting company recruitment and retention efforts.
Print and digital versions are available for purchase. The print Guide is durable, designed to withstand heavy use in a shop environment or on the road. The digital content can be personalized by adding fully searchable notes, highlights and bookmarks and is available for use on any device – desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
