Governor Kay Ivey appoints T. Bestor Ward Chair of Alabama State Port Authority
[ February 7, 2019 // Gary G Burrows ]The Alabama State Port Authority recently announced Governor Kay Ivey’s appointment of T. Bestor Ward, III as chair of the board for the Alabama State Port Authority. Initially appointed to the board in October 2016 to fill a vacated seat, Mr. Ward received his reappointment to the Authority’s board from Governor Ivey in July 2018. Mr. Ward represents one of two At-large seats on the board.
Bestor Ward is president of Ward Properties, Inc., a Mobile, Ala. based real estate management and investment firm. Mr. Ward began his career in banking prior to moving into real estate management and development. Mr. Ward is trustee and chair of the board of the JL Bedsole Foundation, a Southwest Alabama organization committed to providing post-secondary educational opportunities to youth and supporting expanded civic, cultural, artistic and economic development opportunities in the region. Mr. Ward serves on a number of business and philanthropic boards, and is the past chair of the Board for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and the Infirmary Health System.
James K. Lyons, director and chief executive officer for the Port Authority, welcomed the appointment noting, “Bestor brings a high level of business and development expertise to the Port and further to the state’s economy. Both my staff and I look forward to working with Bestor in his new role.”
