DB Schenker provides automated logistics solution for MediaMarkt Sweden
[ August 29, 2019 // Gary G Burrows ]Complete logistics solution for online sales and store delivery using automated picking processes.
DB Schenker is now responsible for MediaMarkt Sweden’s logistics for online sales and store deliveries from the Arlandastad logistics center near Stockholm.
MediaMarkt Sweden benefits from Swisslog’s automated “CarryPick” warehouse management solution, where entire sections of warehouse shelves are mobilized and autonomous. This means the goods are transported directly to the warehouse staff for picking – instead of the other way around. CarryPick can be used to combine automated picking processes from several customers, regardless of the category and size of the products. This eliminates the need for further investment and time-consuming implementation phases.
In addition to a Swedish online pharmacy, MediaMarkt Sweden is thus the second customer that DB Schenker is currently supporting logistically in Arlandastad. The automation solution is one of the first on the market to be used jointly by several customers at one location.
Thilo Koch, Vice President Electronics Vector Market, Global Contract Logistics at Schenker AG: “I am delighted that MediaMarkt Sweden, part of the largest European electronics retailer, has chosen DB Schenker to be their logistics partner. I am convinced that we will contribute to the further expansion of MediaMarkt Sweden’s business thanks to our know-how and the modern resources at the Arlandastad logistics center.”
Michael Rylander, Head of Supply Chain & Logistics, MediaMarkt Sweden: “Given Schenker’s know-how, knowledge, organization and technical skills within the 3PL-market, we strongly believe that Schenker is the right partner for contributing to our future success. This partnership is an important milestone for us on our journey towards providing an even better customer experience.”
The CarryPick solution enables largely automated processing of all incoming customer orders and is up to three times more efficient than conventional warehouse management systems. In addition, it enables MediaMarkt to expand its entire omni-channel sales and react quickly to product or seasonal fluctuations.
Together with MediaMarkt Sweden, DB Schenker will continue to develop the solution further in order to increase the degree of automation and ensure even shorter processing times for incoming customer orders.
All products sold by MediaMarkt Sweden – from small electronic items to televisions and white goods – are stored, picked and packed, and delivered to their destination from an area of around 15,000 m².
