Port of Halifax welcomes latest 15,000+ TEU vessel
[ December 10, 2020 // Gary G Burrows ]The CMA CGM Chile is the latest vessel over 15,000 TEU to call at the Port of Halifax. The vessel arrived at PSA Halifax Dec. 8. ADT. This is the first call for the CMA CGM Chile to the Port of Halifax.
The CMA CGM Chile is an Ultra Class Container Vessel, with 15,072 TEU carrying capacity and 366 meters length overall, and follows the inaugural calls of her sister vessels, the CMA CGM Brazil, on Sept. 10, 2020 and CMA CGM Panama on Sept. 21, 2020. The Panama, Brazil and Chile are the largest containerized cargo vessels to call at a Canadian port.
The Port of Halifax continues to experience low container terminal dwell times and reliable vessel servicing standards with no vessels at anchor or awaiting terminal berth windows. Meanwhile, the port continues to enjoy among the best on-time vessel performance of any Canadian port in 2020. With the recently completed berth extension at the South End Container Terminal operated by PSA Halifax, the Port of Halifax now has additional capacity to handle the biggest ships calling which further ensures that Halifax can welcome large vessels with no delays.
