APM Terminals Itajaí resumes operation of RoRo ships

[ March 24, 2022   //   ]

The return of operations for shipments of cars to APM Terminals Itajaí at Brazil’s Port of Itajaí took place on March 15th, with the docking of the Florida Highway ship, owned by K-Line. More than 460 vehicles in the premium segment were unloaded, all from BMW Group Brazil. The manufacturer, which has imported vehicles not produced nationally through the ports of Santa Catarina since 2013, receives, for the first time, foreign vehicles by means of a RoRo ship.

For the Managing Director of APM Terminals Itajaí, Aristides Russi Júnior, the operation reinforces the Group’s strategy: “As a Global Company, we have evolved in every possible way, both in technology and in processes, to offer the best solutions to our customers and this operation portrays that well”, says Júnior.

For BMW Group Brazil, the import via APM Terminals Itajaí is also a major event: “This is an important milestone in the history of BMW Group Brazil, as we adapt to the global model of maritime logistics and support the development of a port hub to receive the RoRo ship in Santa Catarina. It is a measure that contributes to the development of logistics in the State and also opens doors for other companies with logistics needs to benefit from this achievement in the future”, comments João Batista Martins, Senior Manager of After-Sales Logistics at BMW Group Brazil. “Concentrating all operations geographically close to our Araquari plant brings us great process and time optimizations”, reinforces the executive.

In addition to the commercial importance that the operation represents for the entire logistics chain in the region, Commercial Manager of APM Terminals Itajaí, Daniel Belisário, also emphasizes the company’s knowledge and flexibility to handle different types of cargo, in addition to the flagship that is the container: “The logistics market demands more and more creative and flexible solutions. The same customer that operates in a container at another time needs support in air transactions or warehouse support, or even in a project load. In this way, we always have to be ready and that’s what we’ve been trying to do”, highlights Belisário.

This was the luxury brand’s first operation at APM Terminals Itajaí, but it should not be the only one. The frequency of the service, called East Coast South America, is monthly, always importing cars from the BMW and MINI brands.
