[ March 14, 2024   //   ]

International express shipping provider DHL has expanded its operations in Norfolk, Virginia, by relocating to a facility that doubles is size.
The US$7.3 million investment increases shipment capacity and enables faster processing, allowing for later pickup cutoff times for eastern Virginia shippers. The service center serves Norfolk and the surrounding areas, from th DHL connects to its global network through a daily, dedicated 737 flight between Richmond International Airport and its global hub in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, as well as a trucking service to and from the DHL JFK Gateway.
The center features 25,200 square feet of warehousing and office space, as well as nearly triple the load positions it has previously, for loading and unloading freight around its conveyor system.
Nemer Abohasen, vice president and general manager of DHL Express, said the area is one of the nation’s largest export markets, and DHL’s expanded facilities “will help customers – both large and small – capitalize on business growth opportunities beyond our borders.”
Local package delivery growth has been driven by B2B and B2C e-commerce shipping, as well as companies that provide services for federal contractors and other organizations associated with the U.S. government, DHL said.
The facility is also equipped with charging stations as it will soon introduce fully electric pickup and delivery vehicles. This supports DHL Group’s sustainability roadmap, targeting 60% of its global delivery fleet to be electrically powered by 2030.
