Aertssen Logistics Establishes US Base

[ October 4, 2024   //   ]

Belgium-based Aertssen Logistics has established a U.S. footprint with an international logistics site near the Port of Savannah.
The equipment processing center in Rincon, Georgia, 14 miles from the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal, will serve the machinery, agriculture, equipment and construction sectors moving cargo through the Georgia Ports Authority.
Aertssen Logistics USA Inc. has been set up as a separate entity that aims to double the number of machines it processes annually by 2030.
“Their new location in Effingham County will enable them to significantly grow their logistics business model and provide the region with value-added service for our respective customers,” said GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch.
Aertssen officials said the 35-acre site offers land for future expansion, a strong local workforce, strategic highways and quick access to the more than 35 weekly services calling world markets.
The equipment processing center provides indoor and outdoor storage, and a complete outsourcing of logistics activities, including machine inspections, repairs, technical services, and complete assembly.
Aertssen Logistics partnered with private investors The Broe Group to develop the Savannah area operations hub. The first machines arrived at the Georgia facility in late May, and the collaboration with various partners has already necessitated further expansion.
“We see significant opportunities for growth, fueled by a strong U.S. economy with substantial investments in infrastructure, which are driving an increased demand for our customers’ machinery.” said Guus Verhaagen, business development manager USA of Aertssen Logistics.
Aertssen Group, a family-owned and operated global company, serves the infrastructure (Aertssen Infra), crane (Aertssen Lifting), and transport and logistics industries (Aertssen Logistics and Transport). Sister company to Aertssen Transport focuses on the specialized transport of machinery, project cargoes, and oversized equipment.
Aertssen Logistics started out targeting the storage of machinery in the construction, mining, and agricultural sectors. The business unit has experienced impressive growth, becoming a major player in Europe, with three equipment processing centers located around the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, including Zeebrugge, the world’s largest roll-on, roll-off port. A fourth center, also based in Belgium, is currently in the design phase.
Including its three European locations, Aertssen Logistics now prepares more than 30,000 machines a year for global delivery to end customers in the machinery sector. The company said the centers are complemented by a strong, extensive Asia partner network in the equipment and machinery production markets of China, Japan, and Korea.
“While we’ve had a strong start in the USA, it’s crucial to sustain this growth responsibly,” said Sam Aertssen, director of Aertssen Logistics. “I am incredibly grateful for the journey we’ve undertaken so far and look forward to what lies ahead.”
The Georgia Ports Authority expects to invest US$4.2 billion in the next 10 years as part of its master plan to expand cargo handling capabilities to support future supply chain requirements.
