[ August 21, 2024   //   ]

Chipolbrok said the Boym, the sixth vessel in a series of 62,000-DWT multipurpose ships ordered by the Polish-Chinese shipping line in 2021, set sail on its maiden voyage Aug. 9.
The Boym, which joins as a third-party vessel within Chipolbrok’s collection, was recently christened at Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
In its maiden voyage, the Boym transported components for six wind towers and transformers from China to Australia. Chipolbrok said this journey underscores the line’s continued commitment to playing a vital role in global maritime transport, particularly in sectors like renewable energy.
Chipolbrok has since received five other vessels in this series: Taixing, Herbert, Pilecki, Yongxing and Yu An. The vessel series measures 199.9 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.3 meters in depth, with a draft of 13.5 meters when fully loaded.
The ship is equipped with four cranes, capable of tandem lifts of up to 300 tons, allowing it to transport various heavy equipment and cargo. Additionally, its five large holds, outfitted with movable tween decks, offer flexibility for carrying oversized items. The flat, smooth surfaces of the hatch covers, equivalent to 12 standard basketball courts, are particularly well-suited for transporting long wind farm components.
The latest vessel is named for Michał Piotr Boym 17th-century Polish Jesuit missionary, scientist, and diplomat, who played a crucial role in fostering understanding between Eastern and Western civilizations.
Founded in 1951, Chipolbrok, the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Co., was established to facilitate maritime connections between Chinese and Polish ports. The company is equally owned by Poland and China, represented by their respective transport ministries. It is headquartered in Shanghai with and an office in Gdynia.
