CSX Expands Collective Bargaining Pacts

[ September 10, 2024   //   ]

CSX said Aug. 30 that it has secured new five-year tentative collective bargaining agreements with International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers (IBB) and the Transportation Communications Union (TCU).
The tentative agreements, which are pending ratification by the unions’ membership at CSX, were reached more than four months before the current collective agreements become amendable under the federal Railway Labor Act.
With these new agreements, CSX has reached proactive agreements with 12 labor unions, covering 15 different work groups, amending 20 collective agreements covering more than half of its unionized workforce. The terms of the agreements are aligned, providing equivalent packages of improved wages, health care, and paid time off benefits.
The agreement with the TCU covers clerical craft at Fruit Growers Express. In addition to the IBB and the TCU, CSX said it has reached agreement with the following groups:
• The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, covering maintenance of way employees.
• The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers, covering machinists and roadway mechanics.
• The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division, covering the yardmasters.
• The Brotherhood of Railway Carmen covering carmen at the Fruit Growers Express Co. subsidiary of CSX.
• The American Railway and Airway Supervisors’ Association covering mechanical department supervisors.
• The B&O Joint Council covering mechanical department foremen/supervisors.
• The American Train Dispatchers Association.
“We are incredibly pleased to have reached these tentative agreements ahead of the re-negotiation process, reflecting our strong commitment to collaboration with our union partners,” said CSX President and CEO Joe Hinrichs.
CSX said remains committed to working with other unions and crafts to reach similar agreements over the coming days and continuing to partner with employees to make meaningful improvements in their work environment.
