[ May 31, 2016   //   ]

DB Schenker has opened and successfully started operating its first DB Schenker owned facility in the Middle East. The logistics center is located in the Dubai Logistics City (DLC), and is the first facility out of a three phase growth plan which should provide DB Schenker with a footprint in the DLC of approximately 25,000 square meters by 2019.
The state-of-the-art logistics center has a warehouse space of 7,200 square meters with two mezzanine levels dedicated for value added services and spare parts operations. It contains temperature-controlled areas as well as ambient temperature zones. The facility became 100% utilized only two months after the go-live.

“Dubai is our main hub in the region, and investing in the DLC was a strategical step to strengthen our network and to complete the DB Schenker service coverage in UAE. Being located only a few meters away from the runways of Al Maktoum airport and Emirates Road and only 15 minutes away from the Seaport enables us to offer first class integrated transportation and warehousing solutions for our global customers,” says Ako Djaf, DB Schenker, Regional Head of Contract Logistics / SCM, Region Near Middle East/Africa.

“It is about speed, connectivity and getting the goods on time to end users. That is where by partnering with global players like DB Schenker we can make a difference and make this place a truly ecosystem and one of the key hubs of the global trade”, says Mohsen Ahmad, Vice President Logistics, Dubai South.
With the capacity to process 12 million tons of air cargo by 2023, Dubai Logistics City is strategically located near to the world’s biggest airport, and adjacent to one of the world’s largest container handlers, Jebel Ali Port. DLC incorporates more than 25 sq. km of free zone and serves every transport mode, logistics need and value-adding operation in the supply chain.

Combining its ten years of logistics experience in Dubai and in the NMEA region with its global network and first class operations, DB Schenker has facilitated the market entry of many international companies and grows together with them in this complex but also high potential region. This has made DB Schenker to be one of the fastest growing logistic service providers in the Near Middle East and Africa region expanding the total area of DB Schenker operated logistics centers from 70,000 to 170,000 square meters in the last three years.
