Diversified Port Holdings Receives Safety Award from The American Equity Underwriters, Inc.

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) presented their Safety Awards at their annual conference late last year in Lake Oconee, Georgia and Diversified Port Holdings was the recipient of the Large Stevedore Safety Award.

AEU is the program administrator for American Longshore Mutual Association (ALMA), a group mutual association providing insurance coverage under the United States Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (USL&H). AEU presents the awards each year to the best performing ALMA members nationwide. Eligibility for the awards is based on the frequency and severity of workers’ compensation accidents for the prior calendar year.

“Through the major involvement of upper management commitment, DPH has successfully implemented a world-class safety program that has had a positive impact on their overall safety performance and culture,” says Jimmy Burgin, Senior Vice President and Director of Loss Control at AEU. “They have a structured safety program in place that requires participation from all levels of management that includes executive level, mid-level and employee participation. The team at DPH deserves to be recognized among their peers.”

This award marks the third time DPH has earned this recognition. DPH Safety Director, Gus Cagigas stated “It validates all the hard work and focus on industry best safety practices the entire organization displays on any given day. As a result of these efforts by the team, it ensures associates, both full-time and contract, go home to their families at the end of the day.”
