Hurricane Update: Restrictions Extended in IAH
[ August 30, 2017 // Gary G Burrows ]Hurricane Harvey has dumped more than 20 inches of rain in some areas of Texas, and because the storm has stalled, as many as 50 inches of rain are expected in some areas.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is currently closed. The IAH Airport Authority advises that the airport is expected to reopen Thursday, August 31 at noon CDT.
Due to the actions of the IAH Airport Authority, and for the safety of our customers, employees and partners, United Cargo is extending the temporary closing of our freight facility in IAH and the restriction on the acceptance and movement of all freight and mail. Revised details are below:
— Restrictions now apply in IAH through 11:59 p.m. CDT Thursday, August 31
— Restrictions apply to all origin, transfer or destination shipments of all freight, mail and PetSafe. No freight or mail shipments will be transported in, out or through IAH via air or truck.
— The United Cargo IAH Freight Facility is temporarily closed, and shipments will not be accepted or terminated during the restriction period.
Contingent upon the scheduled opening of the airport on Thursday, United Cargo plans to reopen our freight facility in IAH on Friday, September 1. We will begin to accept and transport non-perishable GEN and EXP shipments only at that time. Please note that:
— If the airport reopens as scheduled, United Cargo will reopen our facility just after midnight on Friday, September 1. At that time, we will begin accepting non-perishable GEN and EXP shipments only. All other products and commodities will remain restricted.
— We plan to expand acceptance and carriage to all cargo products in IAH just after midnight on Sunday, September 3.
Please note that restrictions on cargo and mail acceptance and transport have been lifted in Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and San Antonio International Airport (SAT). Our freight facilities in these locations have reopened, and we have resumed acceptance and transport of freight and mail in AUS and SAT.
We regret any inconvenience caused by this weather event. As always, United Cargo values your support and appreciates your business.
