Kerry Logistics Continues Thai Expansion at Laem Chabang Port

Kerry Logistics has commenced construction on Phase Four of the expansion at Kerry Siam Seaport (KSSP) in Laem Chabang, Thailand. The company is developing the facility into a key cargo gateway for the increasing trade in ASEAN to cope with the growing business demand in countries within the Greater Mekong Region (GMR) including Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.
The new project will see berths double at the facility with the number of operational berths to increase from 10 to 20, and total length to extend from 1.5 km to 2.8 km. Together with an additional bridge connecting to the port, the construction is expected to be completed by 2019.
“The expansion is a strategic achievement for Kerry Logistics to enhance our connectivity and exposure within the region. As Asia’s largest, multi-purpose deep seaport terminal, KSSP is undoubtedly a gateway to ASEAN, and this development will enable us to capture the growth potential brought by boosting trade among ASEAN countries and to support the cargo growth in the GMR,” said William Ma, Group Managing Director of Kerry Logistics.
The project and Kerry Logistics’ recent win of concessions to operate two inland ports in Myanmar will further strengthen the Company’s growing network and interconnectivity as it develops a far-reaching integrated logistics service platform penetrating ASEAN.
“Cargo and container traffic within ASEAN and in particular the GMR has recorded strong growth in recent years. Connected to the GMR via sea, rail and road links, KSSP will be the only terminal with full, one-stop port logistics infrastructure and capability to support both cargo owners and shipping lines as they penetrate into other markets in ASEAN and beyond,” added Kledchai Benjaathonsirikul, Managing Director of Greater Mekong Region, Kerry Logistics.
