Port of Brownsville Honors Texan Cement
[ December 13, 2024 // Gary G Burrows ]The Port of Brownsville has named Texan Cement as the recipient of its 2024 Chairman’s Award at a customer appreciation luncheon Dec.10.
Brownsville Navigation District Chairman Esteban Guerra presented the award to Ricardo Viejo García from Cementos Tudela Veguín, parent company of Texan Cement. The award recognizes achievements of port tenants in business growth, leadership, job creation, customer service, innovation, safety, and community involvement.
“Texan Cement has demonstrated remarkable leadership in the construction and infrastructure sectors while significantly contributing to the growth and prosperity of the Rio Grande Valley,” Guerra said. “Their investments and commitment to sustainability are paving the way for a brighter future for our community.”
Under the stewardship of Masaveu Group from Spain, Texan Cement began dry bulk handling operations at the port in 2017, importing Portland Cement for the domestic market. The company is shifting its operation from a regional distribution center to a production facility capable of making 400,000 tons annually.
The US$42 million investment, which includes bulk handling equipment and increasing storage capacity from 14,000 to 40,000 tons, is in addition to their initial US$10 million commitment. The company’s focus on sustainability includes integrating green technologies, reducing transportation emissions, and advancing low-carbon solutions.
