The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) announced the addition of two experienced ocean carrier executives to the port’s commercial team.

David Briceno joins JAXPORT as Director of Cargo Sales for the U.S. Southeast. He is responsible for growing JAXPORT’s container business with new and existing importers, exporters, beneficial cargo owners, and manufacturers located in the region.
Briceno has nearly two decades of experience serving in roles of increasing responsibility with global ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd. Most recently, he served as Senior Account Executive, responsible for managing containerized cargo accounts and building trade relationships with shippers in the Southeast Florida and U.S. Gulf Coast regions. In that role, he managed container cargo accounts for some of the largest Southeast-U.S.-based shippers, including department stores and big box retailers.
He has experience in all facets of ocean carrier logistics, including close collaboration with freight forwarders to develop shipping solutions that expedite end-to-end cargo delivery. Briceno is also experienced in specialty areas including resin, agricultural products, and less-than-truckload shipments, including Freight All Kinds (FAK). He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Ocean carrier operations executive Raymond “Mike Ryan joins JAXPORT as Director of Cargo Sales for the U.S. Northeast. He is responsible for growing the port’s container volumes by developing and maintaining relationships with ocean carriers, cargo owners, non-vessel operators and freight forwarders located in the New York and New Jersey area. Ryan also supports sales for breakbulk and roll-on-roll-off cargoes for customers located in the region.
Ryan most recently served as Vice President of USA Operations at ZIM Shipping, responsible for managing terminal costs and operations for the ocean carrier’s North American terminals. In that role, he identified and implemented operational efficiencies resulting in up to $2.6 million in annual savings. He has also held operations management roles with ocean carriers Hanjin Shipping and Sea Land. Ryan has 35 years of experience in all areas of maritime and port operations, including terminal processes, cargo ship operations, logistics, vessel planning and stevedoring.
A U.S. military veteran, Ryan is a retired lieutenant commander with the U.S. Navy Reserve. He is also a former member of the New York Shipping Association (NYSA) Board of Directors and past Chairman of the International Vessel Operators Hazardous Materials Association.
“Mike’s operations experience and David’s commercial expertise round out our award-winning sales team,” said Chief Commercial Officer Robert Peek. “They bring decades of industry experience and will use that knowledge and experience to provide our cargo customers with the seamless and efficient experience the industry has come to expect from JAXPORT.”
