Yusen Logistics Joins ONE LEAF+ Shipping

[ February 24, 2025   //   ]

Freight forwarder Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. said it has reached an agreement for sustainable shipping solutions through liner shipper Ocean Network Express’ ONE LEAF+ green shipping service.
Under this agreement, ONE will use sustainable biofuels for propulsion, achieving up to 84 percent reduction in well-to-wake CO2 emissions compared to very low sulfur fuel oil, or VLSFO. The green shipping option will enable Yusen Logistics to simultaneously reduce their Scope 3 greenhouse gas, or GHG, emissions.
“This collaboration with Yusen Logistics represents an important step in expanding the availability of green shipping solutions in Asia,” said Says Gilberto Santos, senior vice president, global commercial and service management, ONE. “Together, we are advancing our shared commitment to sustainable shipping and supporting the industry’s decarbonization goals.”
“We are very pleased to sign an agreement with ONE as the first logistics company in Asia and aim to build a more sustainable future through the provision of eco-friendly shipping solutions together,” said Kohei Omura, Yusen Logistics’ head of ocean freight forwarding group.
ONE LEAF+, or “Low Emission-Able Freight,” uses used cooking oil methyl ester, or UCOME, a non-toxic and biodegradable biofuel derived from food production. Customers can choose flexible CO2e savings from approximately 10 percent to 80 percent and receive independently verified emissions reduction certificates to track their environmental impact.
ONE continues to implement its Green Strategy and Decarbonization Roadmap to drive immediate action while developing long-term solutions. From improving operational and fleet fuel efficiencies through vessel modifications, to investing in emerging propulsion technologies.
Singapore-based ONE operates a fleet of more than 240 vessels with a capacity exceeding 1.9 million TEUs and provides container shipping services to more than 120 countries.
With its global headquarters in Japan and Hong Kong, Yusen Logistics provides ocean and air freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution services, and supply chain management.
